A 24-year-old self-proclaimed "world traveler" from England was charged with allegedly entering the apartment of three female Penn State students yesterday morning.
John Oliver Howells, 24, faces one count each of criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. Howells, who was arraigned before District Justice Carmine Prestia, is being held on $2,500 bail.
As of yesterday, Howells preliminary hearing was not yet scheduled.
According to the criminal complaint from the District Justice's office, the following happened in the early morning hours yesterday.
One of the victims, out of the three women who live in the apartment on the 100 block of High Street, saw Howells sleeping on the couch in her apartment.
She went back to sleep, thinking he was one of her roommate's friends. Immediately after she got back into bed, she heard one of her roommates scream.
The other roommate screamed when she saw the silhouette of an unknown man enter her room and close the door from the inside.
After the second roommate screamed, both of the other roommates heard the shriek and helped push Howells down the hall and out of the back door of their apartment.
When police arrived they found Howells' wallet, as well as some other personal belongings that included his photo identification.
Howells was later found by police sleeping on a couch in another apartment in the same building, where the residents also were unaware of his presence.
Howells is not facing charges for entering the second apartment.
Howells, who has been traveling the world for 18 months, came to State College to meet up with a woman, the State College Police Department said.
