One Penn State graduate was charged and 11 warrants are outstanding for the arrest of others allegedly involved with trafficking an estimated $1.96 million of Ecstasy in State College and through the fraternity system, police said yesterday.

Students planning on bicycling home through the streets of State College after a long night of drinking: beware.

More than 30 years after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. spawned the establishment of black studies departments at institutions across the country, professors say they still have to defend their field.

As of last Friday, the art project by Chris Rzomp (senior-architecture) entitled the "confessional," no longer exists and the bathroom stall that contained it was returned to a state very similar to its original appearance.

The Wildcats (4-15, 0-8 Big Ten) looked inept last night as they were embarrassed by Penn State (12-8, 4-3 Big Ten), 84-49 in The Bryce Jordan Center.

In order to have a championship-level team, that team must have consistency. The Penn State men's gymnastics team knows this is the key element it needs to work on and improve upon each week in order to excel during the post-season.

If you were looking for something suspenseful -- like a close basketball game -- hopefully you avoided The Bryce Jordan Center last night.

Not much was expected from the Nittany Lions this season, but that doesn't make the team's current 5-12 record and losses in six of its last seven games any easier to take.

This weekend the No. 1 Icers will make the trip up to Michigan to play the Eagles tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.

Two of the three unranked Big Ten teams, Penn State (3-6) and Indiana (6-4), square off on Sunday at Rec Hall. Penn State coach Troy Sunderland knows that right now is the time to perform as the Big Ten schedule begins.

The No. 3 men's and women's fencing teams will look to improve on their 4-0 records on Saturday as they host Ohio State, Duke, North Carolina, University of Pennsylvania and Hunter in their first home dual meet of the season.

Every so often an athlete is simply too strong and too fast for the competition. This past weekend freshman Deirdre Dlugonski was exactly that.

The last time these rivals took the same ice was in a Dec. 1 battle that resulted in a bench-clearing scuffle and eight suspensions.

When the Penn State women's gymnastics team (0-1) travels to Pittsburgh (1-2) for its 6 p.m. meet tomorrow at the Fitzgerald Field House, the rivalry will go on.

The 2001 Ravens defense had it, so did last year's Yankees, even though they didn't win the 2001 World Series. They oozed something that all teams wished they had.

The men's boxing team will put its gloves on tomorrow afternoon at Mansfield University for the first time since last year. The Mansfield Invitational will feature seven Penn State boxers, and include fighters from five different schools overall.

Penn State men's volleyball coach Mark Pavlik and assistant coach Dennis Hohenshelt will hold a coaches clinic March 8-9 at Rec Hall.

The Penn State Ice Lions (8-11-2) will return home on Saturday to host the University of Maryland Baltimore County (2-16) at 3:30 p.m. at the Greenberg Sports Complex.

Golden Globe fashions lack color, carry sense of mourning too far, making this year's 59th annual Golden Globe Awards a bit more subdued than the past.

Students discuss what makes HBO show so popular: Is it the sex or is it the city that has Sex and the City viewers all rattled up? The popular comedy is playing on HBO in its fifth season, and according to its increasing popularity, is going strong.

Members of the university work year long hoping to bring diversity into each student's life. Their efforts culminate in February, a month when students are encouraged to explore and respect the diversity of all cultures.


Would you like to get away for a while, but can't afford the airfare? Then my suggestion is to head over to Pattee Library and enjoy Europe vicariously through art.


Comedian Dave Chappelle has been a recognizable movie and TV star for years, but next week, Penn Staters will get a chance to see him up close and personal as he takes the stage for his sold-out show at 8 p.m. Monday in Eisenhower Auditorium.

The Association for India's Development is sponsoring Bollywood Se, a concert of Indian popular music performed by the Washington, D.C. band Spandan, at 7 p.m. tomorrow at State College Area High School, South Building, 650 Westerly Parkway.

The Pennsylvania Centre Chamber Orchestra celebrates Mozart's birthday at 3 p.m. Sunday at the School of Music Recital Hall with a concert of the composer's best-loved pieces.

Giving Chase, a local melodic punk band, will perform at 8 p.m. tomorrow in the HUB's Heritage Hall, along with Keepsake, Hot Rod Circuit, Tabula Rasa and Short Side.

The wrath of Penn State's punk scene will be felt at 7 tonight when the bands The Big Crap Scare, Caught Like Fire, No Hope, and Sick For The Holidays perform at Kolbrook's Veterinary Clinic, 1756 Nittany Valley Drive in Bellefonte.

The student director of the first No Refund Theatre for the semester has compared his play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, to Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot.

Michael Glabicki is returning to his roots. But before he does, he's making one more solo stop in State College.

Jazz-funk sextet Galactic will perform Tuesday at Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave. The hard-working, hard-touring, hard-jamming group returns to State College accompanied by Triple Threat DJs.
