Provost's comment is irresponsible, wrong
It makes me sick to read that the Vice Provost for Educational Equity has now publicly made not one, but two public, racially charged comments about how white people don't understand diversity. If this is an implication that white people don't understand oppression, I'd be willing to bet there are more than a few Jewish, Polish and Russian students directly affected by communism and fascism who would beg to differ. Of course, as he said himself, it doesn't matter. It's all about skin color. Minorities understand diversity and racism while white people do not. Take a second to comprehend the stupidity of that statement. Jones knew nothing about the ethnic background of the students to whom he spoke, but that didn't stop him. He showed no respect for the students he spoke to as well as all the Caucasian students who happened to read the Collegian. Though I'm not surprised, I think I'm not alone in expecting that university officials hold themselves to a reasonably high standard of public behavior. Not only was Jones' comment ignorant, it was irresponsible and most certainly counterproductive. It's not very comforting to know we have a racially biased Vice Provost for Education Equity.
