In my final two semesters at Penn State, I wanted to avoid the sickening sensation in the pit of my stomach when listening to ignorant, self-centered points of view.

Needless to say, this quest has been difficult, and today has proven futile. While walking to one of my classes, I was unfortunately stuck listening to several students in military uniform talking about their obligatory diversity focused courses.

Their opinions about taking the course was less than pleasant as they even proceeded to trash several cultures in which they had no interest in knowing anything about.

This incident has left me ashamed that these individuals are students at Penn State and representatives of our military as well.

After reading today's article about the clash between Jones and the Undergraduate Student Government it made me realize his point of view. I can see and feel how he would feel there is a definite lack of diversity on the Penn State campus.

The lack of diversity combined with the ignorant opinions I overheard today is truly sad. I support the diversity initiative and just want to say that diversity is not a waste of any person's time.

Opinions that can hurt and offend are more dangerous than a thousand bullets shot out of anger.

This is the 21st century — hopefully some individuals and their ethnocentric opinions will wake up from whatever dream world they put themselves in above everybody else.
