Nittany Lion women's soccer players Joanna Lohman and Emily Oleksiuk were named to the Verizon Academic All-District 2 team.
Oleksiuk, a geography major with a 3.83 GPA, was also named second team Verizon Academic All-American last year. A three-time first team NSCAA All-American, she is the NCAA's all-time leader in minutes played with 8853. Tabbed the Big Ten's top goalkeeper four-straight years by being named first team all-conference keeper, she is Penn State's career-record holder for saves (416), shutouts (43.75) and wins (81). She also owns single-season school records for saves (132, 1998), shutouts (15.4, 2000), fewest goals allowed (10, 2000) and goals against average (0.0405, 2000). A four-time NSCAA first team All-Mid-Atlantic Region All-American, Oleksiuk was also named NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Defensive Player of the Year twice.
Lohman earns academic all-district honors while maintaining a 3.95 GPA as an undergraduate studies major. She earned NSCAA All-American accolades for the first time in her career after posting nine goals, 14 assists and 32 points on the season. Second on the team and in the Big Ten in assists, she broke Penn State's single-season sophomore record in that category. She was also third in the conference in scoring. Lohman is a two-time first team All-Big Ten honoree and was named NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region All-American and All-Big Ten Tournament twice.
The Verizon All-Academic teams are voted on by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
