Letter to the Editor
Walker deserves death, not a cushy life in jail

Much to my disgust, I heard the news that John Walker will not be tried for the death penalty, but rather will be sentenced to life in prison. For those who don't know, John Walker was the fine gentleman who betrayed his country by going to Afghanistan and joining the ranks of the Taliban.

John Walker was well aware of the events that would take place on Sept. 11 and agreed with the actions of bin Laden and his friends as they run around hiding in caves and making videotapes. I can think of no greater insult to the more than 2,800 victims who lost their lives in the World Trade Center, Pentagon and in the fields of Pennsylvania then by letting a man like this not be charged with treason and not to be tried for the death penalty.

Rather, John Walker will enjoy nice warm meals, a fine bed to sleep at night, perhaps 200 cable channels and maybe even a nice walk around the park on a sunny day. Not bad for committing treason against your country and killing American soldiers. As a nation, we must come to know what is right and what is wrong, and letting John Walker "off the hook" is wrong.
