Last Saturday, the Penn State men's indoor track and field teams brushed aside the competition without breaking a sweat.
But they know that this Saturday will be different as they head to Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana Tri-meet.
The Nittany Lions will square off against both Indiana and Ohio State University.
"We are trying to get ready for our last two indoor meets at the Big Ten Championships and the ICAAAA meet," Penn State track coach Harry Groves said.
"This week we are going against two very good track teams, which will be a lot of fun."
Even with their convincing win at last week's meet, the Lions knew that they weren't really challenged and they had to remain focused in practice this week.
"Some teams last weekend didn't have enough people for the events," Groves said. "So we were able to pile up a lot of points."
The athletes have repeatedly emphasized that the Big Ten is the best athletic conference in the nation.
"Once you get Big Ten competition, the competition stiffens up," team captain Brian Derby said.
"We just have to keep our heads up, while recognizing the competition is going to get tougher."
Knowing this, the team did not dwell long on last week's win and have been very focused in practice.
"Things are going well," said Derby, an NCAA All-American. "We are more or less staying focused. We've got freshmen that we are really excited about and the only place to go from here is up."
Last year the Lions beat both Indiana and Ohio State at two different meets -- the Collegiate Invite of US Coaches Association and the Big Ten championships. At the Collegiate Invite, the Lions nudged Ohio State to finish at first place.
Then-sophomore Guy Rose broke the school record with a time of 7.77 in the 60-meter high hurdles.
At the Big Ten Championships, the team had a great performance on the last day and finished fifth.
The Lions have high hopes for their freshmen, who performed well at last week's meet.
"The freshman class is amazing," sophomore Nick Manganiello.
"They have tremendous talent and we are excited to see what they are going to do."
One of the major changeups to this week's team is that NCAA provisional high jump qualifier, senior Ryan Olkowski, will be running the 60-meter dash for the first time ever.
