A small group of Penn State students was exposed to a woman who has been hospitalized with meningococcal meningitis, said Margaret Spear, director of University Health Services.
The woman is an Allentown resident and was in State College visiting students who live in an off-campus apartment.
"We have contacted the people who she visited here," Spear said. The exposed students were given preventative antibiotics, she added.
Symptoms of meningitis often resemble cold or flu symptoms and include vomiting, headache, drowsiness, high temperature, stiff neck and sensitivity to light, according to the Meningitis Foundation of America Web site.
Anyone experiencing symptoms can call University Health Services at 814-865-6556 or Centre Community Hospital at 814-231-7000.
