Women needed in IST, but not for relationships

I just finished reading the article, "Women must bridge 'computer geek' gender gap."

At first, I was excited to see what I thought was a man supporting women's involvement in areas such as IST; it is fairly uncommon to find men who are vocal about their support for women in male-dominated fields, and anytime they are, I think it's a step in the right direction.

However, I was quite disillusioned to see that the article basically turned into a plea for more women to enter technological fields, not because of what they can contribute, but because the author wants to find a girlfriend.

It's really important to remember that women should be valued for traits such as intelligence and our abilities to contribute to society, rather than the various kinds of relationships that we can provide to men. As a woman, I'm sick of being judged and sized up based on things that don't matter. And if I were to enter some type of male-dominated field, I would certainly hope that my involvement would be based on my skill and intelligence rather that someone's attempt at getting a date with me.

So, I would just like to say to the author of this article — you started off on the right track, but if you're looking for a date, I think that you should start looking somewhere else.
