The Penn State women's basketball team's win against Michigan on Sunday was significant because of the great team effort displayed.
However, there was one notable absence on Penn State's bench: senior forward Katie Schumacher.
"Katie Schumacher is no longer with the team," coach Rene Portland said in response to a question about Schumacher's status. "She came in and complained about a lack of playing time and chose to leave the team."
This occurred sometime after last Thursday's 62-57 win against Indiana in which Schumacher played one minute and was 0-1 from the field.
This came on the heels of Schumacher's best performance of the season at Illinois Jan. 7.
The Chicago native set career highs in points (8), rebounds (6) and steals (2) in 12 second half minutes which was her first action of the season.
Schumacher was also a standout on the women's volleyball team, leading the team to a national title in 1999.
