Single-ply paper better than other alternatives
I'm writing with concerns about the recent letters to the editor complaining about single-ply toilet paper. It is time for people to stop complaining. I lived for three months using nothing but sticks and snow while backpacking and had no problem staying clean, healthy, and comfortable. Many in the world do not even know the luxuries of single-ply toilet paper. By no means am I calling for the end of toilet paper, for after three months using sticks I've grown to kind of like the stuff, but this is just one more example of an American culture (which I am extremely proud to be a part of) that over-consumes, over-uses, and over-indulges itself. I'm not calling for a mass upheaval of our society (although the time might be soon), nor is my intention to separate myself from this culture of over-consumption, but I think its important for us to look at what is really important to living comfortably. Does two-ply toilet paper truly make one happy? Not I: I'm waiting for the day when houses come standard with a snowball machine next to the toilet for that icy fresh feeling. My friend is an architecture major and the designs are already underway. They are going to be hot, so send your orders in quick. Matt Diskin
