A Bellefonte man was allegedly attacked by 30 unidentified people early yesterday morning, just moments before another man was allegedly assaulted at the same Westerly Parkway location, police said.
These attacks, as well as another weekend assault on East Foster Avenue, have left the State College Police Department searching for witnesses.
Police believe the Westerly Parkway assaults are connected. One of the attacks occurred at 2:38 a.m. and the other occurred at 2:39 a.m. Sunday, State College Police officer Mark Argiro said.
The assaults took place during a rave at the Oriental Buffet, 418 Westerly Parkway, Argiro said. The Bellefonte man was attacked by 30 unidentified people of Asian decent, Argiro said.
The victim later got into a taxi. After the vehicle drove away, another assault victim, a 22-year-old Penn State student, was found lying on the ground near where the taxi had departed, he said. The injured man was not struck by the taxi, Argiro added.
The second victim was taken to Centre Community Hospital, where he was admitted with a broken jaw, Argiro said. He remained in the hospital as of yesterday afternoon.
Another assault took place at 2:11 a.m. yesterday, when another 22-year-old man was assaulted on the 100 block of East Foster Avenue, Argiro said.
Reportedly, the victim was walking with a group of four to five friends when a green or blue Lexus ES 300 with custom wheel rims drove by, police said. The passengers in the car began "cat-calling" to the women in the group, calling the victim's girlfriend a "whore," Argiro said. The men in the victim's group yelled comments back to the riders in the Lexus; the car pulled over and five unidentified black men got out of the car and confronted the victim, Argiro said. They forced the victim to the ground and kicked him repeatedly in the head, he said. The driver of the car acted as though he had a gun in the breast pocket of his coat, Argiro added.
The attackers then retreated to their car and drove away, Argiro said. The East Foster Avenue victim also was taken to Centre Community Hospital with sustained head injuries. Police ask anyone who witnessed the attacks or has information regarding the assaults to contact police at 814-234-7150.
