Penn State sophomore guard Kelly Mazzante has been named December's National Player of the Month by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Mazzante, the nation's leading scorer at 26.3 points per game, went on an eight game stretch during December when she averaged 30.5 points per game.
Mazzante tied the Big Ten's overall single-game scoring record and set a new mark for conference games when she recorded 49 points in a win over Minnesota on December 29.
She also broke the Penn State single-game record for 3-pointers made and surpassed the school record for most 30-point games in a career. Mazzante has also been honored as the Big Ten Player of the Week three times this season.
The sophomore guard is on pace to become the fastest player in Penn State and Big Ten Conference history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
