It's very clear that the College Republicans on the senate were acting to further their own interests. They knew that they could get money from USG's coffers to lessen their financial burden on their trip and they took advantage of the opportunity.
What's particularly frustrating is that none of them are willing to admit to the press that this is exactly what they did.
Particularly galling is the comment made by Sen. Holloway. It's not surprising USG did not wish to support Pride Week, given that some of the events at the CPAC conference will feature the Family Research Council and Jesse Helms.
Instead of deciding to fund an event that encompasses a rally, entertainment, seminars and art, all freely available to all Penn State students, certain members of the senate have decided to allocate $1,500 to 35 students ($42.86 per student).
In contrast, the $1073.52 (later reduced to $573.52) requested for Pride Week would have easily reached hundreds of students.
The senators in question acted selfishly. The fact that they deny doing so really shows their true colors.
