Yesterday, a date that won't live in infamy, nor improbity, marked the commencement of the Undergraduate Student Government officially coming out the closet. Now there are no longer internal conflicts and questioning of self.
Unfortunately, if societal problems are on the horizon because of the aforementioned event, support groups on campus are lacking necessary funding, thanks to USG's denial.
USG has sponsored a trip to the Conservative Political Action Conference and funded the exorbitant costs. Town Senator Brendan Holloway affirmed his bias outright when he mused that the College Republican trip is more educational than a "gay poetry reading" or "a rally on Old Main." It is with this that I still must applaud USG and its alleged democratically elected officials for being so direct in its accusations. Jason Covener's past comment that, "USG will not fund political events" has about as much credence as when his buddy George "Daddy" Bush said, "Read my lips, no more taxes!"
After taking this monumental step, I wish USG the best of luck. One behalf of the students, I say that it should be a pleasure to work with such headstrong humans. It is essential for USG to exhibit pride in light of their public promulgation. With that having been said, I make one request: Just don't have some patriotic poetry reading session or military march on Old Main!
