Redistricting no threat to local Democrats
Disguised as concern for their constituents, State College Democrats are worried that their support base will potentially be jeopardized by the recent redistricting proposal. I hate to be the one to tell them that their "support base" probably doesn't really care. State College Mayor Bill Welsh claims that the redistricting proposal is "an effort to limit any possible impact on elections by young voters." I can't help but to laugh at this statement, since student participation in local elections has been virtually nonexistent. I was not surprised to see that Welsh later admitted that the redistricting would have an effect on political influence only "if students should ever register and vote in numbers proportional to their presence in the community." Being that the most controversial presidential election in recent history was unable to accomplish this, I can only conclude that local Democrats are simply trying to vilify their Republican counterparts.
