Nominations sought for teaching awards

The Smeal College of Business Administration is seeking nominations from students for the Fred Brand Jr. Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Advising.

One award will be issued in each of the following areas: undergraduate teaching, undergraduate advising and graduate teaching assistant.

Abdullah Yavas, associate professor of insurance and real estate, received last year's award for undergraduate teaching, and Jocelyn Bennett, coordinator of minority affairs and minority student programs, received the honor for undergraduate advising.

Torsten Ringberg, a Ph.D. candidate in marketing, is the former recipient in the area of graduate teaching assistant.

The awards are named after Fred Brand Jr., a member of Penn State's Class of 1932 who passed away in 1998, according to the college. They have been offered since 1979.
