Penn State 20th in first of Sears Cup standings

Penn State varsity sports teams earned 140 points from the program's fall sports to place 20th in the first standings of the 2001-02 Sears Directors' Cup competition.

Seven-time defending champion Stanford leads with 521 points, followed by North Carolina (305), UCLA (271), Colorado (251) and BYU (228). Michigan and Michigan State were the only Big Ten schools that placed higher than the Nittany Lions.

Penn State has finished in the top 20 in all eight previous Directors' Cup surveys, with three top five finishes. Last year, the Lions finished 10th in the final standings.

The Sears Directors' Cup standings will be updated following the completion of the winter sports season.
