While thousands of families welcomed their Penn Staters back home over winter break, one family was left to wonder if they would ever see their daughter again.
While students relaxed and relished their time off, Cindy Song's family was desperately doing everything in their power to make sure investigators remained vigilant.
Sadly, little information was uncovered over the break and law enforcement officials are not much closer to finding the 21-year-old Penn State student.
After Song's disappearance, members of the Penn State community helped with the search by scouring the grounds near Song's apartment, making fliers, holding meetings and sending out e-mails to campus groups.
These efforts were integral to the search because they kept Song's disappearance in the public eye.
During the break, investigators said they feared that the search would lose momentum over the long vacation and students would forget about Song. They thought that students would move on during the holiday and put Song's disappearance behind them.
Let's hope they misjudged us.
We cannot allow this prediction to prove to be true. Time has passed, but Song's family and friends are still suffering.
The break did not make the search for Song any less urgent or less important. It is imperative that the Penn State community continues its efforts to find Song.
We need to keep Song in our minds because if people begin to forget, there is less of a chance that the investigation will succeed.
We are starting a new year and a new semester, but we cannot allow last year's events to fall by the wayside. Song's family and friends have not forgotten about Cindy Song's disappearance that early November morning.
Neither should we.
