Feminists' arguments should apply to rapes

You heard it here first. Rape cannot be prevented by women.

Despite everything the campus feminists have been preaching about empowerment, self-reliance, and personal freedom, we now know that rape cannot be prevented by women.

To those safety-conscious women who exercise good judgement by not drinking themselves into unconsciousness and staying away from men who are clearly over-aggressive and/or intoxicated, don't bother, because rape cannot be prevented by women.

Don't worry about locking your door either, especially when there may be sexual predators stalking the dorms. Locked door or not, rape cannot be prevented by women.

And ladies, when the inevitable does happen (and believe me it will), there's no use in struggling or calling for help, because despite any attempt to resist, rape cannot be prevented by women.

Before you jump down my throat, realize that it was USG Director of Women's Affairs Laurie Rosenberger who, according to Friday's Collegian, stated that "rape cannot be prevented by women." Her opposition to risk reduction has nothing to do with incorrectly assigning blame. It has everything to do with casting women as helpless victims who can do nothing to protect themselves.

This is exactly the victim mentality these rape cards and its supporters promote, and only serves to prove USG Senator Jason Covener's point. I for one am glad that we have representatives like Jason Covener who exposes these absurdities for what they really are.
