Football 'fans' at U.Va. didn't show any interest

I attended the game on Saturday at the University of Virginia and I really wasn't sure what I was attending -- a football game or a debutante ball. I didn't see most U. Va. fans wearing Virginia football apparel and going crazy for their team. What I saw was a lot of khaki pants, ties, dresses and a lot of conversation about anything other than football. Why, you ask. I'll tell you. Because football is a social event to them.

Penn State made up one third of the entire crowd on Saturday. If that isn't love for football, what is, Metallica? When was the last time any visiting team had a crowd that filled a third of our stadium? No we don't have gushing smoke, but football isn't WWF Raw, and no we don't have a cute little animation, but if I wanted to watch Toy Story, I would rent it. I'll take the music of the Blue Band over those things any day. Please let us not forget there are two words at Penn State that sum up tradition, a love for college football and what truly makes it the best game in the world: Joe Paterno. Go Lions!
