Praise hometown team instead of U.Va. pomp
Penn State played hard in a pretty meaningful football game on Saturday. That is why I am surprised at the topic Brian McDonald chose to write about in the Lions Wrap-Up (PSU can't compare to South in football fervor). As a commentary writer, he could have traveled one of many game avenues of greater significance than how 'neat' the UVA pre-game festivities were. Why not applaud the Lions' effort and heart on the field, culminating a season in which they never gave up? Maybe send off a deserving senior with an in-depth feature? Or offer a vote of confidence for next year? Instead, Mr. McDonald opted to use his space in the school newspaper to discredit the Penn State Blue Band, the fans, and the alumni. We can only imagine a similar Cavalier uproar to a future opinion in UVA's Top News Daily, groundlessly claiming that the worthy PSU Law School outshines the prestige and tradition of their own.
