Company never asked for help during threats
In a recent column Queen Nworisa criticizes Security On Campus, Inc. for not being concerned about death threats being made against former Black Caucus President Lakeisha Wolf. We were very concerned about these threats as well as the resulting tensions, and monitored the situation closely. We are, however, as the letter notes an "external" victim services organization and generally only become directly involved at the request of a crime victim. The victim of the rape case that is now a campus controversy has been in contact with us since shortly after the assault, and specifically asked that we write to Penn State on her behalf. No one asked us for help during last year's problems, and it also seemed that those concerns were at least widely heard if not properly responded to. As many people can probably understand, the victim felt that on her own she might not be able to speak in a voice loud enough for Penn State to hear. We merely offered her a chorus to amplify her cries for help, and it seems that was finally loud enough to be heard. Our organization is devoted to fighting campus violence in whatever form it may take, and we condemn hate crimes as well as other forms of campus crime like rape and hazing. If others in the Penn State community feel that enough isn't being done to combat all of these problems I hope that they will contact us toll-free at 1-888-251-7959. We look forward to working with everyone in the community with these concerns to help make Penn State as safe as possible. S. Daniel Carter
Security On Campus, Inc. Senior Vice President
