Penn State Mallet Ensemble to present musical medley of holiday, jazz pieces

At 8 p.m. Monday in Esber Recital Hall, Music Building I, the Penn State Mallet Ensemble will present its first holiday concert. The ensemble will be under the direction of Dan Armstrong, professor of music.

The concert will include a variety of holiday music as well as jazz and classical performances. One of the chosen pieces is Dan Levitan's "Yule Flip," a medley of 30 seasonal tunes. In addition, the ensemble will perform arrangements of Jacques Offenbach's "Can Can," Peter Tchaikovsky's "Danse Arabe," Georges Bizet's "Farandole," and a jazz version of Beethoven's "Fur Elise," with vibraphonist Ian Kraynak. Also, Nicole Hollis will be the featured xylophone soloist on Charles Johnson's "Dill Pickles."

The concert is free and open to the public.
