It wasn't a concert. It was a spectacle. A whirlwind of sequins, 20-foot flames and flying gymnastics, with a little bit of music wedged somewhere in the background.

At Penn State, professors have taken varying approaches to including the attacks in their courses, ranging from a brief mention to a semester-long discussion.

One month after air strikes on Afghanistan officially began, it is still too early to tell how or if the retaliation efforts will indefinitely affect Americans. Experts at Penn State say the war on terrorism is not easily defined and not easily solved.

Penn State women's basketball head coach Rene Portland had her first chance on Wednesday to see where her young team stands entering the 2001-2002 season.

The Penn State men's soccer team showed its offense is alive and well last night, scoring two goals en route to a 2-0 victory over Northwestern in the first round of the Big Ten tournament, hosted by Wisconsin.

It has spent nearly a month of trying to form a cohesive team from a group of players that includes just one returning starter. Now the Penn State men's basketball team will get its first opportunity to get its rotation on the court together against a team that won't be wearing blue and white.

The aggressive, take-control Penn State women's soccer team from earlier this season showed Northwestern exactly why its ranked No. 7 in the nation as it shutout the Wildcats 3-0 in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament yesterday in Lafayette, Ind.

The dominos are falling just like they were stacked at the women's Big Ten tournament at the Purdue Soccer Complex.

Getting to Furman, SC., has been a goal since mid- August.

For that goal to be fulfilled, the Nittany Lions will need to run well at the Regional meet this Saturday at Lehigh. The top two teams on Saturday will earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championships.

Penn State has not won two games in one weekend on the road yet this season.

After dismantling a Rutgers Lady Scarlet Knights te am 15-0 last weekend, the Penn State Lady Icers look to keep the win wagon rolling when they return to the ice this weekend in two non-league games.

The Penn State fencing team will host the 30th annual Garret Penn State Open this weekend.

The No. 13 Nittany Lions (17-5, 10-4) travel to Champaign for a 7 o'clock match tonight at Huff Hall. Tomorrow, the Lions head to Bloomington, Ind. to take on Indiana at University Gym in another 7 o'clock match.

The ACHA Div. I Penn State Icers have done nothing but win this season and it has been ugly -- for the opposing team.

Entering his fourth year as Penn State wrestling coach, Troy Sunderland faces the most important season of his tenure -- off the mat.
