As the organizer and chairperson of this Sunday's upcoming Rally to Support the War Against Terror, I would like to set the record straight on an important issue. The war is not a war against Islam and the rally is not a rally against Islam. In fact, the American led coalition has the support of Egypt, Algeria, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, Yemen, Jordan, Sudan, Kenya, Turkey, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, Bangladesh and other Islamic nations. The Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Organization of Islamic Conference, and the Organization of African Unity have all condemned the Sept. 11 attacks and offered support for the U.S effort.
Two of the three largest Muslim political groups in America, the American Muslim Alliance and the American Muslim council have issued statements supporting the American led military effort. Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, Islam's most prominent independent legal scholar, and a long sworn adversary of the United States recently released a fatwa legally requiring all Muslims to join the United States war effort. The authority of that fatwa has been attested to by the Fiqh Council of North America, the School of Islamic and Social Sciences, the American Sufi Muslim Association, and Imam Fesal Abdul Rauf, head of Masjid Al-Farah the largest Masjid in North America.
