Starting today, the sidewalk on the south side of the Eisenhower Parking Deck will be closed for the next three weeks.
The construction project, involving the installation of steam lines to support the ongoing construction in that area, will close off the sidewalk south of the Eisenhower Parking Deck from the west entrance to Penn State Police Services to the southwest entrance to the parking deck.
Drivers seeking visitor or handicapped parking will be redirected from the parking deck to Lot Orange B on Bigler Road, across the street from the Sarni Tennis Center.
Paul Ruskin, Office of the Physical Plant spokesman, also said that students entering the Penn State police office from central campus to pay parking tickets will have to enter the building via a temporary service road from the east side of campus.
This change will force students to reroute their paths, a possible inconvenience.
"This will inconvenience a lot of people because a lot of people come through here," said Kharima Washington (junior-english).
"It will be a slight inconvenience," said Bryan Black (graduate-forestry). He also said that "there will be enough alternate routes so it won't be that bad."
Ruskin said that while the office apologizes for the inconvenience, the work must still continue.
"It's unfortunate but we have to do this sidewalk work," he said.
Ruskin also said that the Office of the Physical Plant will place signs around the area to redirect students to the temporary walkway to clear up any confusion.
The construction will not affect any Centre Area Transportation Authority bus routes.
On the west side of campus, however, LINK service will discontinue on two stops along Burrowes Road to facilitate the opening of a new parking lot on West Campus as well as the extension of White Course Drive.
