Amanda Wetzel (senior-international politics) presented an award-winning essay to the United Nations General Assembly in New York yesterday.
According to a university press release, 10 winners were chosen in an international essay contest open to undergraduate students. The topic was about how a dialogue can prepare people for the future. Wetzel's essay, "Dialogue in a Digital World," is about bridging differences between cultures worldwide.
Wetzel competed against students from 3,100 universities internationally and is representing Western Europe and the Americas at the UN, said Vivienne Wildes, director of the Undergraduate Fellowships Office.
Wetzel is also one of 20 nationwide finalists for the George Mitchell Scholarship, a scholarship awarded to students to study in Ireland. She is also a Penn State nominee for the Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford and the Marshall Scholarship to study in the United Kingdom, according to the release.
