I am disturbed by the university's negligence regarding the identities of corporate recruiters on campus. During an interview last week, I didn't get a business card from my interviewer. I went back to the McAllister Interview Center to find out the correct spelling of her last name so I could write a follow-up letter, but was appalled to find that the only record the office had of the recruiter was an illegible signature on a sign-in sheet.
To date, no university office has any other record of the recruiter who interviewed me on November 1. At this rate, it seems anyone who can put on a suit and scribble a name in the sign-in book is free to collect confidential information about students.
The rest of the nation is heightening security by taking extra time to do background and identity checks -- and so should Career Services.
