I would like to comment on the recent rash of fire drills in the dorms. I understand that the university is interested in maintaining our safety, and I thank them for that.
However, it seems as though they are showing extremely poor judgement in calling so many fire drills. Having so many fire drills is worse than the boy who cried wolf. It is worse because it is toying with the safety of the dorm residents. The immediate response of the student is "Oh man, not another stupid drill." It is horrible that such a complacent reply is the immediate response to a fire alarm. This is a direct result of so many drills on campus. We are responsible adults, we know how to exit buildings, we know not to use elevators during a fire.
Why does the university insist on testing us? We are all extremely busy. I have four tests this week and others are in the same situation. So why should we waste time outside for a half hour? Perhaps without these irresponsible and numerous drills, the fire alarm might be taken seriously if a fire should occur.
