The fourth annual Penn State White Ribbon Campaign to end violence against women begins today. Sponsored by Men Stopping Rape, free white ribbons will be available at the Allen Street gates today and at various campus locations through Thursday.

At 7:30 tonight in the HUB-Robeson Center Auditorium, Allan Johnson will speak in conjunction with the start of the campaign. Johnson, a professor at Hartford College for Women of the University of Hartford, is a writer and public speaker who focuses on issues of gender, diversity and inequality in society.

His talk will be on masculinity and men's roles in violence against women and rape culture. At noon today, Johnson will be participating in a group discussion and brownbag lunch in 120 Boucke. The session is open but due to room constraints, space is limited.

Johnson is the author of The Gender Knot and, most recently, Privilege, Power and Difference.
