Letter to the Editor
Discriminating against non-Christians improper

Mr. Hawkinson, I was deeply saddened by your article in the Nov. 1 issue of The Daily Collegian, because you seem to have no knowledge of what Christianity really is. Christianity is not about believing in some "perceived god" who differs for everyone, just as being a Christian is not about going to church every Sunday, but about accepting Jesus Christ into your heart, acknowledging Him as the one true God, and living a life that reflects your decision of confessing Him as Savior.

I see my fellow students trying to fill the holes in their hearts. They turn to drugs. They turn to alcohol. They turn to sex. And at the end of each day, they find themselves empty and unfulfilled. It is only the Holy Spirit that can fill the void in their hearts. Am I perfect? As a Christian, I will be the first to say that I am far from perfection. Without the Holy Spirit working in my heart and in my life, I would be nothing. I am sinful. Among other things, I am guilty of judging others, but every time I do wrong, the Holy Spirit convicts my heart. Will I ignore and discriminate against those who don't believe in Christ as their Savior? Of course not.
