'Rip This Joint' by High Times

Pop High Times' Rip This Joint into your CD player and within minutes you'll just about be able to smell the reefer.

This two-disc compilation features "rare tracks from 23 of rock's smokingest live acts," including the String Cheese Incident, Fishbone, moe., the Disco Biscuits, Keller Williams and Galactic. All of the songs on the album are live recordings harvested from the King Biscuit Flower Hour radio show archives and most include improvisational segues, making the set a gem in the sea of overly-polished, radio-ready music that we're bombarded with on a daily basis.

The track "30 Days In The Hole" by Humble Pie is a humorous muse over how pot smokers must keep their toking discreet to avoid imprisonment. Keller Williams' "Breathe" is an impressive and calming rhythmic collision of sound that just makes you glad to be alive. Kingfish's "One More Saturday Night" is an enjoyable jam session to tap your foot and nod your head to, even if you're not high. And Les Claypool's "Riddles Are Abound Tonight" is a bewitching slide into the powers of the unknown.

In deciding whether or not to purchase these CDs, the list of artists should tell you all you need to know. If you're into chill, grooving, hippie rock from a variety of talented artists — with a hint of herbal infusion — this album is sure to light your fire.
