'Live at the Point' by Townhall

Have you ever tried to describe something, only to come up empty in your search for words?

It's a difficult position to be in. But that is the case when talking about up-and-coming band Townhall, a band for which conventional adjectives don't apply. Its new album, Live at the Point, is refreshingly unique in its style and scope.

Melding and mixing elements of funk, jazz, bluegrass, rock and numerous other genres, Live at the Point may prove to be the tip of Townhall's musical iceberg. While listening to the album, recorded during a June concert, you're shown a little of everything Townhall has to offer.

Songs like "Chevy" should have you up and dancing. Others like "These Days" and "So Far" are perfect study songs, soft and subdued enough to exist in the background but groovy enough to keep you awake.

The one common thread throughout the album is a collection of infectious rhythms that are sure to result in toe tapping and head bobbing.

The band, which is not even a year old, is made up of five former Philadelphia college students. Former is a key word, as all of the members have dropped out of school to focus on their music.

With a debut album as solid as Live at the Point, it's a safe bet none of these guys will be re-enrolling anytime soon.
