Those who want to oppose the Willard purveyors of religious vandalism should realize an important point: They thrive on being attacked and threatened with censorship. There is big money in bad religion. Their backers are generous, especially when aroused. And arousing them is an art, not to say a racket.
When someone like Pat Robertson says something outrageous, as when he urged that Hindus not be permitted to enter this country, it stirs up the check-writers. That's why he does it. He didn't get rich by being stupid. He knows that the idea will never be adopted and that it shows the utmost contempt for America. But it's worth its weight in gold.
Preachers Cattell, Cope, Smock, etc. want furious Penn Staters to try to deny them the chance to speak here. It proves that they're Christian soldiers, that they're embattled for the Lord, that they're taking flak for what they and their cash cows believe. It confers effectiveness on them as nothing else can, because they sure aren't making converts or influencing anyone favorably. Be smart. Talk about money. Ask them about their pay and benefits. When they refuse to answer, keep asking. Because money is why this stuff is happening.
