Local candidates to respond to questions

Students will get a chance tonight to question the candidates running in next week's local elections. The forum will take place at 7 p.m. today in Heritage Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center. Each of the candidates for State College Borough Council from the Democratic and Republican parties will be present, according to Undergraduate Student Government Town Sen. Rick Smith, who organized the event.

The mayoral candidates, incumbent Democrat Bill Welch and Student Party candidate Justin Leto (senior-computer engineering), will also attend, Smith said. A panel of three students will question the candidates, who will be allowed brief opening and closing statements.

Smith said students should attend the forum to become more educated about what the candidates stand for.

"The borough elections may not seem exciting," Smith said, "but they deal with student life."
