BJC holding auditions for anthem singers

In the aftermath of the nation's tragic events, The Bryce Jordan Center will be presenting live performances of the National Anthem during this season's Lady Lions' and Nittany Lions' 26 home basketball games.

An open audition for those interested in singing before the games will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Center Stage in the Nittany Mall. People of all ages and ability are invited to audition.

"I think it is a little more important to have live performances because of what is going on in the world. Before Sept. 11, people took a lot of things for granted. It is important to pay more attention to the song now," said Bernie Punt, director of sales and marketing for The Bryce Jordan Center.

An audition panel including the Penn State cheerleaders, the Nittany Lion mascot, the voice of the Lady Lions, Jerry Fisher, and the voice of the Nittany Lions, Steve Jones, will judge candidates.

Those chosen will be assigned to sing the National Anthem before one of the Penn State basketball games and will receive up to four tickets for the event.
