Letter to the Editor
Many late-night options downtown, on campus
I disagree with the opinion expressed in the Oct. 18 editorial, "Late-night Locations Needed at Penn State." There are many places to eat late in State College, and there are also many businesses that deliver late at night. Papa John's, Wing Zone and Gumby's Pizza are all examples of businesses that have late-night delivery services. Claiming that businesses neglecting to remain open all night is what increases drunk driving is unfair. Businesses have extended hours on weekends in order to handle the late night student rushes. They do what they can by staying open later than normal. Remaining open all-night would only be beneficial to these businesses if they were to get a large amount of business. This is improbable, since although there are 40,000 students at Penn State, the majority isn't looking to eat food past business hours. The thought that businesses not remaining open late increases drunk driving is simply one-sided. People should know better than to drink and drive. State College businesses are anything but responsible for the ill judgment of students.
