Letter to the Editor
Military deserve thanks for defending country
I am writing in response to Craig Munster's letter in The Daily Collegian on Tuesday. Mr. Munster, if you are truly not sure whom the military is protecting you from and whom they are fighting for, I suggest you join the military. It is time for you to stand up and thank the millions of veterans that have fought for your freedoms. That cartoon reflects the frustrations of all men and women who have been in the military. In addition, I am concerned you do not understand what a military target is. A military target is a target that is selected as a possible threat to our service men and women, or a target that would assist us in gaining a better military advantage. In 1991, we knocked out all of Iraq's communications, including its civilian telephone service. That was a strategic military target to ensure more safety for our military. Unfortunately, civilians lost their lives. Before complaining about the selection of targets the military used, think about the bigger picture. The Taliban controls most of the pictures we are receiving from Afghanistan. The Taliban will take advantage of everything they can. Take the oath and quit complaining or step aside and let the brave men and women do their jobs.
