NEWS

Penn State is continuing to keep its eye on underage and binge drinking.

The majority of toxic waste dumps are in minority communities, but the penalties for companies who pollute there are less than in white communities. That was one of the examples given yesterday in a forum about environmental racism, described as racial discrimination in environmental policy decisions.

Big Hams

Students will have the opportunity to learn outside the classroom today at a program called "What Can Conflict Teach Us?" The event is one of the activities scheduled as part of the Undergraduate Student Government's Unity Week.

The Undergraduate Student Government joint diversity committee has a new leader and a new mission.

Coffee Talk

The Bryce Jordan Center announced yesterday that Fuel will be performing along with Sevendust and Nonpoint at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Jordan Center.

The Bryce Jordan Center announced yesterday that The Pledge of Allegiance Tour — featuring metal rockers Slipknot and System of a Down — has been moved from its original Oct. 26 date to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at the center.

Police are searching for the "BB bandits."

Online ticket sales for The Bryce Jordan Center events will now be available through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com.

SPORTS

With three of the school's top 20 scorers gone from a team that advanced further in the postseason than it had in 47 years, it's clear that there will be a number of players on the Penn State men's basketball team who will have some big shoes to fill.

What do the Penn State men's basketball team and Rodney Dangerfield have in common? Both get no respect.

When the Pittsburgh Panthers score this year, something will be missing from the celebration in the stands.

The theory behind college is to learn from those that are wiser than you (supposedly). For the Penn State women's basketball team, that meant observing the Philadelphia 76ers when the team was using the Bryce Jordan Center for its preseason training camp earlier this month.

My Opinion: Russ Shelly

When a coach chooses her captains, sophomores usually do not figure into the decision process. With only a year of experience, a sophomore player most likely will still have some growing to do before they can take on a leadership role.

A bye week is usually looked forward to, especially for a team that has struggled in the first few weeks of the season. But the Penn State football team is sick of not playing every Saturday.

OPINIONS

Mueller suggestions could be beneficial
