Mueller suggestions could be beneficial

The Mueller Report sponsored by Penn State Green Destiny Council, if enacted, could save the university $45,000 annually in energy costs according to the report recommended by students.

The report, first begun as a class assignment for an upper-level biology course, told students to devise a way to cut the Mueller Building's environmental impact in half.

The 54-page document outlined the operations of the building and ways to improve them.

Part of what's good about this report is it was composed by students. It is a great way to give students the opportunity to have an involvement in the way the university uses energy.

The university should at least scrutinize and consider the report to decide the feasibility of making these changes. Not only might it be a good way to save money, it could also show students they can have an affect on the school.

The Green Destiny Council said that aside from wasting resources, money supporting Penn State from tuition and taxes is going to waste — taking money from all students.

The changes will not necessarily cost more money, a belief that many have about making ecological changes, the students say.

If the report is applied to the Eberly College of Science, the student findings said that the changes would save Penn State about $500,000. If the entire university applied the changes, the savings could be in the millions, according to the report.

This report could be a step in the way of helping out the environment and saving Penn State a lot of money. This, in turn, saves money for everyone. Some buildings on campus have uncomfortable temperatures and fixing these will be better economically as well as a more comfortable learning atmosphere for students.

Simple changes in the classroom is one step in a larger scale of making economic and environmental changes that would benefit everyone.
