Letter to the Editor
Offensive or not, Flynt represents free speech

Larry Flynt offends me. The content of his magazines offends me.

But what offends me even more are those who believe that he and the entire staff of Hustler should not be allowed to freely express themselves.

Flynt's visit to the University Park campus may be unwelcome by some members of the university community, but to others it is an opportunity.

Communications majors were all encouraged to attend his speech, and still others can benefit in numerous ways from the experience of hearing a prominent magazine owner and entrepreneur speak about the First Amendment and succeeding in business.

Those who disagree with Flynt were not required to attend his presentation and, thanks to the First Amendment and in part to Larry Flynt, are more than welcome to voice these opinions. But, perhaps they should reflect on their disdain for Flynt, and recognize his plight to preserve everyone's freedom of statement.
