The recent situation with Julian Heicklen is quite unfortunate, because this is not representative of the Libertarian Party as a whole.
The Libertarian Party does not support any form of bigotry. I am a black man, have been active in the Libertarian Party for over eight years and I have never found any hint of racism within the party.
I was state chair of the Delaware Libertarian Party from 1998 to 1999 and I am currently the New Castle County chair.
A number of prominent blacks, such as Walter Williams, an economist at George Mason University, and Roy Innis, president of CORE (Congress of Racial Equality), support Libertarian ideas.
As a former candidate for Congress in 2000, I would not endorse the irresponsible tactics that Heicklen is using to get exposure.
Not only are such tactics insulting, they are politically disastrous.
The Libertarians in Centre County should find someone more responsible to represent their chapter.
