In New York City, two airplanes flew into the World Trade Center, later collapsing the buildings. One of the planes was confirmed to be hijacked, according to the Associated Press.

Firefighters continue to battle the blazing buildings.

In Washington D.C., a plane was reported to have crashed into a helicopter pad at the Pentagon. Federal buildings nationwide are being evacuated.

About 80 miles southeast of Pittsburgh in Somerset County, a Boeing 767 crashed at about 10 a.m. into a strip mine area, killing all of its passengers, according to television reports.

Airports across the nation have closed down and current flights are being diverted to Canada.
