Penn State student crashes car, hits truck

A car accident occurred early Friday morning at the intersection of Park Avenue and North Atherton Street, said the State Police Department.

A 1991 Saturn struck a commercial truck and forced it into the southwest corner of the intersection into a traffic signal pole at 4:19 a.m., police said. The truck was overturned from the force of the collision.

Witnesses reported the car traveling at a high rate of speed on West Park Avenue as the driver approached the intersection, police said. The car did not slow or stop as it approached the intersection and continued on through the flashing red light. The truck driver was found outside of vehicle, police said.

He sustained a facial laceration and was transported to Centre Community Hospital by Alpha Community Ambulance Services. The car driver was found partially ejected out the passenger side window, police said.

The car driver was unresponsive and had sustained serious injuries, police said. He was transported to Geisinger Medical Center by helicopter.

Warren W. Ernst Jr. (senior-integrative arts) the Saturn's driver, remained in critical condition last night, Geisinger officials said.
