A 33-year-old State College man was arraigned on sexual assault charges Friday after allegedly hitting and forcing sexual intercourse on his ex-girlfriend.

Dennis L. Brown is being charged with one count of rape, one count of sexual assault, one count of indecent assault, one count of unlawful restraint, one count of terroristic threats, one count of simple assault, one count of criminal mischief, one count of burglary, one count of theft by unlawful taking or disposition and one count of receiving stolen property.

Brown is being held in Centre County Prison on $50,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.

According to State College Police Department documents, the following happened early Friday morning:

The victim, Brown and the victim's friend were visiting another mutual friend's apartment from 11:30 p.m. to about 3 a.m.

The victim said she and her friend left the apartment to get some cigarettes, leaving Brown at the apartment. When they returned to the mutual friend's apartment, Brown was gone. She then asked her friend to drive her home to her apartment.

When she arrived at home her bedroom window was smashed. She went into her room and after trying to secure the window, Brown appeared behind her. Brown had broken into her locked apartment through the window.

The victim said Brown began to yell obscenities at her and accused her of cheating on him. She then went out to her living room with Brown following her. She said she was punched in the head, face and neck area with a closed fist by Brown. She said she was hit as many as 10 times.

After hitting her with his fists, he grabbed her and threw her onto a table causing the table to collapse to the floor with her on top of it. The victim said he continued to accuse her of cheating on him, and took off his belt and began to whip her with it. She said he hit her several times.

When he finished whipping her she said he grabbed her by the back of her hair and dragged her down the hallway toward her bedroom. Along the way he told her "you're going to die tonight." She told police that Brown often inflicted beatings on her because she had no escape.

The victim said Brown told her to show him her genital area to see if she had sex with anyone else recently. She said she briefly exposed her genital area and then pulled back up her pants. He then told her to take them back off and she did so. Brown then took off his pants and pushed her on the bed and forced sexual intercourse on her.

The victim said she repeatedly asked Brown to stop.

After several minutes, he stopped. She then went into the living room and Brown followed her. She sat on the couch and he continued to call her names and accuse her of cheating on him. He then reached for a dining room chair and she ran for the door of her apartment. She said she heard him throw the chair in her direction but it did not hit her. She said she ran to a friend's house and spent the rest of the night there until she called her father at 6 a.m.

Her father came and picked her up and they went to her apartment.

When they arrived, the apartment door was open and the apartment was ransacked. She said many items were damaged and several belongings were stolen from the apartment.
