Letter to the Editor
Hooters features food, not scantily-clad staff
I became outraged by the letter to the editor written by Andrea Young. The notion that a restaurant "encourages assaults, harassment" is absolutely absurd. I recently dined at Hooters with several friends, as well as my girlfriend. Upon leaving, no one in the group had any thoughts of going out to commit an assault upon the women of State College. While viewing the scantily clad waitresses may be the goal of some patrons, the food and laid-back atmosphere attracts others. The establishment makes its money from the sale of food, not women's bodies. Further, this is just another accusation that men are the only perpetrators in sexual assault crimes. In a society that pushes equal rights, shouldn't equal blame come as well? Women are just as likely to commit a sexual assault crime as a man. If there were a restaurant chain targeting women with scantily clad men in State College, I doubt either the men or the women would have the same concerns.
