Letter to the Editor
Not all men responsible for campus assaults

In Alyssa Pinsker's letter to the editor, I find it troubling that she blames the Collegian for blaming the victims in Saturday's sexual assault in Mifflin Hall.

She contends that, "We need to start telling men that sexual assault is wrong instead of telling women to lock their doors."

As a man and a decent human being, I am insulted and can. It seems that all Pinsker is doing is generalizing the blame for what only a small minority of the male population does.

She goes even further to say that "we need more education for our male students on what is respectful and appropriate behavior." The suggestion that males have no decency and respect when it comes to the opposite sex is a very sexist comment.

Furthermore, she believes that the language of the Collegian is insensitive towards women.

To say "lock your doors" at night and "do not 'piggyback'" is insensitive? Yes, any sexual assault is wrong and I can not imagine the type of emotional pain it must leave in someone's life. But there must be a realization that sexual crimes do happen, and we do not live in a perfect world by any means.

Moreover, as a preventative measure, it is important that all people protect themselves from these types of predators.

I suggest that Pinsker rethink her views toward all men, instead of jumping to unwarranted conclusions.
