To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Studies at Penn State, Pattee Library opened a diversity exhibit.
Opening today, "To Make You Feel Proud: Gender and Sexuality Studies at Penn State," is a collection of books and materials gathered from other subject libraries within Paterno and Pattee Libraries.
"We have set aside a room to have exhibits from our permanent collections that highlight various diverse collections," Social Sciences Librarian Cindy Ingold said.
"It represents different perspectives on the lesbian, gay and bisexual (communities) from other libraries," she said.
The materials are on display through Oct. 31 in the Candace and Patrick E. Malloy III Diversity Studies Room, 109 Pattee Library.
"The collections are on various subjects from politics and law, literature and art, higher education and behavioral sciences like psychology and also biology," Ingold said.
"I have been working with a committee to find copies (of the materials)," Ingold added, "so
if they saw the book in the display case they can go to the LIAS online catalog to check it out."
Questions can be referred to service desks in any of the subject libraries, Ingold said.
Ingold is a subject specialist for Women's Studies, African and African American Studies and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Studies, as well as a three-year member of the Penn State Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equity.
The exhibit coincides with two university events: a lecture series entitled "Millenium Approached: Queer Literary Series in the 21st Century" and the LGBT's anniversary banquet in October that carries a theme of "A Decade of Pride: A Milestone on the Road to Equity."
