Soccer player Dawson to compete in Beijing

Penn State's men's soccer player Ben Dawson has been selected to the British Universities soccer team to play in the World University Games in Beijing, China, Aug. 21 to Sep. 1.

Dawson, a junior on the soccer team, will depart Aug. 9 for two weeks of preparation at the Hong Kong Sports Institute.

The week-long tournament, beginning Aug. 21 will be held at the Beijing Workers Stadium and will feature group games against China, Mexico, and Nigeria. The finals of the tournament will be Sep. 1.

In 2000, Dawson started every game for the Nittany Lions defense and was fourth on the team in scoring with 10 points.

He earned second team All-Big Ten honors and was selected to the Penn State Nike Classic All-Tournament team.
